Into the Wild blog 1

I admire Chris McCandless' passion for adventure. I think what he did was very interesting and I give him my respect for doing what he wanted to do and being extremely independent. I can honestly say I have just about no idea why McCandless decided to go to Alaska and live off the land and ultimately end up dying in a bus alone. I do think one  reason he might've decided to go on this journey was to just try to become one with nature and test the limits of how far he can go without living in the modern world with modern technology and other useless things that distract people from the beauty of nature. There is no doubt in my mind that Chris McCandless was sane. He was an intelligent individual with different views than everybody else. He believed that people didn't need luxury to live happy lives. That really surprised me considering he was raised in a wealthy family. But maybe there was issues within the family that could have had an impact on his life and way of thinking.  He would much rather tramp across the country not knowing how or when he would eat. He liked living in on the edge relying only on himself. I think that is what led him to his downfall. Yet there are many things that leave me puzzled like why didn't he decide to tell anyone what he was going to do? Why didn't he want anybody's help until it was too late? All these things lead me to think he was on some journey to find something. But what he wanted to find, I don't know I don't know. I think the reason people like McCandless go on these journeys that involve throwing away everything that you can't put on your back is not because they are insane but because that is the life they want to live and i don't think there is any other way to explain it.
